Ensaaf is a nonprofit organization working to end impunity and achieve justice for mass state crimes in India, with a focus on Punjab, by documenting abuses, bringing perpetrators to justice, and organizing survivors.

I saw a baby's burnt bottom in the video - how cruel these humans were to burn a baby? I wonder what could have triggered violence on such a massive scale against a community. I don't believe the Gandhi family would have instigated such a violence because they come from a lineage which has believed in Gandhian values and Nehru & Indira were firm believers in non-violence. My belief is that India was still a fledgling country and didn't have a host of leaders to lead the country at that point in time. So, loss of a strong leader like Indira Gandhi gave everyone especially those in govt a sense of instability and worry which lead to some leaders taking it out on the Sikh community. A vacuum of leadership is what causes people to riot - they lose their rational thinking ability and develop a mob mentality. I really hope more research is done to understand who and why this massacre happened.
